…or actually what’s the difference? We get asked this question a lot especially when dealing with office furniture. “They are both good” is usually the reply. Office furniture and a lot of home furniture is made out of both or a combination of the two, solid wood and wood veneers.

Solid wood furniture is exactly that. Real wood. It uses solid wood boards to give furniture strength and durability. Most furniture made with real wood surfaces are usually simple in design and the beauty is in the species, highlights in the grain of the wood and the finishing technique. Real wood furniture is easier to repair and refinish then veneers.

Furniture made with wood veneer is made out of a plywood, pressboard or a composite material. The real wood veneer is then bonded over this material. Furniture made with veneers is usually more decorative and have inlays creating more designs in the wood. Veneers are different thicknesses so when stripping, sanding and refinishing you have to be careful not to burn through it.
Furniture made out of composite materials with veneers is sometimes more stable and not susceptible to warping and cracking due to humidity and temperature changes of the season or the room. Humid conditions can make real wood expand.

Office furniture we work on is usually made of both -real wood for structure and durability and wood veneers to add beauty and design. Both will hold up very well if it is a quality piece of furniture and you take care of it.

With all wood products, real wood or veneers you will want to dust frequently with a soft cloth sometimes a little damp. Stay away from polishes with wax, silicone and oils. Today’s wood finishes do not need excessive polishing to enhance the beauty and these polishes can cloud the finish and cause wax build up.

so are allergies, dust, pollen, bugs, sneezing, coughing and germs. All in the air. Isn’t springtime just lovely? The funny thing is on most beautiful spring days we are not outside strolling in the park taking in the freash air. Instead we are in our offices doing work. Many of us saving up money and time so we can go out and enjoy those beautiful days.

Spring is a time for spring clean up. Winter hibernation is over! It’s a time to freshen things up. Open up those windows, air things out a bit, clean up the clutter you gathered because it was too cold to go outside, fire up the lawn equipment and see the damages the winter did to your house and property.

It’s also a time to think about cleaning your office furniture. Look at all the hours you spend sitting in your office chair and behind your cubicle. Now ask yourself…. “when was the last time I actually cleaned and shampooed my chair and cubicle panels?” Don’t think to hard because you may get grossed out when you actually think how long ago it has been. Just like any other investment you must maintain it or it will not function properly. Would you wait this long to clean your room or wash your car?

Now look at your office chair. Notice how much dust is trapped inside? Notice any food or drink stains? How much sneezing and coughing have you done into your office panels over the years. Grossed out yet ? Springtime is the time to consider freshening up and giving yourself a new start. Cleaning and touching up your office furniture will not only extend the life of the furniture it will also disinfect and sanitize your work environment. A germ free work enviornment…sounds good huh?

Take advantage of our Springtime office furniture cleaning specials and start the season off right.
